TOP 20 Hospitals celebrates its 5th anniversary.
The programme has already become a reference point for the Spanish hospital sector. Elements which have contributed to consolidating the programme include methodological improvements which have been introduced and developing the assessment process in specific clinical areas.
However, the crucial factor which explains our success over these five years is the trust we have received from hospitals that have participated in the programme year after year, growing from 118 in the first edition to 155 in the fifth edition. This trust they have placed in us is the most important stimulus for Iasist to keep working and innovating the TOP 20 hospitals programme and we would like to thank them.
A total of 155 centres have taken part, representing hospitals of all sizes and complexity. Of these, 126 mostly attend National Health patients (81%) and 29 (19%) are essentially dedicated to private patients or those with private insurance cover. The first category accounts for 58% of the total number of hospitals treating National Health patients.
Aspects most emphasised in this edition
Methodology
This edition maintains the evaluation methodology from the previous year, with the single exception of eliminating the outpatients section (hospital outpatients and home visit activity), due to inconsistencies detected in declarations.
Clinical Areas - Digestive Surgery Area Benchmarks
This year we are presenting the Digestive Surgery Area Benchmarks.
This work does not cover analysis of all digestive surgical pathologies, but it looks exclusively at patients over 18 treated for:
- Wall hernias
- Anal pathology
- Acute appendicitis
- Cholecystectomy
- Colon section surgery
- Rectum section surgery
- Gastric section surgery
- Oesophagus section surgery
- Pancreatic section surgery
In this case, 155 hospitals have been evaluated. We should also highlight the 20 benchmark hospitals in the Digestive Surgery Area.
