Conference 2002

On October 3rd 2002, the Third TOP 20 Hospitals Conference was held in the Ritz Hotel, Madrid, organised by Iasist with Antares Consulting a company associated to the programme and with the collaboration of Diario Médico, Inforpress and ESADE.

Attendance at the conference and gala dinner was a complete success, with over 240 participants and the presence of different authorities from 9 autonomous communities.

The Conference was inaugurated by the Honourable Dr. Alfredo Macho, Vice-Councillor of Health Care for the Madrid Board of Health.

During the first part of the conference, Dr. Molly Coye, General Director of the Health Technology Center of San Francisco, gave a presentation on the impact of emerging technology on hospitals of the future.

Dr. Coye presented the requirements drawn up by the Health Technology Center panels of experts regarding the introduction of new technologies and new approaches in care in hospital organisation, as well as the professional profiles required.

Dr. Eduard Portella, a Partner at Antares Consulting, then chaired a debate on this presentation.

After a break, in which the participants took the chance to intermingle and enjoy a coffee, the Conference continued with a presentation of the benchmark results in the area of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, carried out by Dr. Antoni Arias, Consulting Director at Iasist.

The 2002 TOP 20 programme began its extension into specific clinical areas and the delegates showed great interest in this initiative.

Finally, and before going on to the Top Hospitals award-giving ceremony, Dr. Mercè Casas, Managing Director of Iasist, presented the results of the Top 20 Hospitals 2002 programme, analysing the trends over the last three years and concluding with the most relevant findings for this year.

The long-awaited moment for the participants, the award-giving ceremony for the Top hospitals this year, was presided over by the Honourable Dr. Rafael Pérez-Santamarina, Secretary General of Health at the Ministry of Health and Consumption, with the presence of the health service directors from the award-winning hospitals.

Seated at the award-winners Chairman's table were institutional representatives from health services from the following Autonomous Communities, with Top hospitals in this edition: Catalonia, Castilla - La Mancha, Castilla & León, Valencia Community, Galicia, Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Madrid and Murcia.

TOP 20-2002 Hospitals

The directors of the award-winning hospitals (20 public and 4 private) were delighted to collect their awards from the hands of the Honourable. Dr. Pérez-Santamarina.

Award presentation to hospitals benchmarked in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

The Gala Dinner, the more social part of this annual event, took place after the conference, also in the Hotel Ritz.

During the dinner, the Honourable Dr. Pérez-Santamarina presented the awards to hospitals benchmarked in Orthopaedics and Traumatology and the heads of department of these units collected them.

The Conference and the award-giving ceremony were conducted by Mr. Javier López Iglesias, President of the National Association of Health Journalists and Editor of Jano.
