Mercè Casas founded Iasist (1991) and has been the Managing Director ever since, as well as President of Iasist Portugal since 2007. Before starting up Iasist, she was Director of the Barcelona Health Institute for 4 years, Managing Director of a university hospital and held management positions in the Health Departments in Andalusia and Catalonia, where she was responsible for the health information and planning departments.

Mercè has a degree in Medicine and surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (1977), where she also took her doctorate (1990). Between 1987 and 1995 she ran several research projects on case-mix management both nationally and internationally, financed by the Health Ministry and the European Union.

Since the mid eighties, she has worked as a guest lecturer or director of seminars on different Masters programmes for several business schools and regional health schools.
